Lawrence County, OH (WOWK) – A man accused of firing a weapon at two men and injuring one in Lawrence Co., OH earlier this month was back in court Thursday morning.
According to the Lawrence Co. Sheriff's Department, Hunter Crislip is accused of shooting a man in the back with a shotgun. He is facing a charge of attempted murder, while other charges are pending.
In court Thursday, a magistrate judge decided to bind the case over to a Lawrence Co. grand jury.
The incident happened on April 21 at a rural home outside of South Webster, OH earlier this month. According to Lawrence County Sheriff Doug Adams, a call was made to police regarding child welfare at the residence as well as suspected kidnapping. Neighbors also reported multiple gunshots in the area around the same time.
Three unidentified female minors reportedly in the home were rescued and then taken into law enforcement custody. The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
William Trent of Gibsonia, PA and Joe Renner of Eaton, OH made the initial law enforcement contact. Renner is a retired Preble County, OH sheriff's deputy as well as a former mayor of the City of Eaton, OH. Trent is a marketing executive and real estate investor with dealings in the Athens and Columbus, OH entertainment markets.

It was unclear at the time of this reporting what circumstances led the two men to be at the home. While Lawrence Co. sheriff's office declined to comment at all, the Cincinnati FBI field office, which had teams from the Anti-Trafficking Coordination unit at the location after the shooting, stated that "Mr. Renner and Dr. Trent are both known to the bureau through their work with various non-governmental organizations. We do not comment on open investigations, however we can confirm that neither of them is a suspect or person of interest."
Calls and emails to both men directly were not immediately returned.
